As a beauty editor, it’s almost in my job spec to tell you to tan safely – ie, don’t tan at all. You see, there is, unfortunately, no such thing as a safe suntan, real or otherwise.

Any dermatologist will tell you that a tan is a sign that the sun has permanently damaged your skin cells. Not so sexy now, is it? And as for those currently seeking solace in fake tan, you might be shocked to learn of studies linking DHA (a chemical used to tint our complexions) and premature skin-cell death.

Sun boosters work like damage control, helping to maximise your tan so that you can minimise your number of hours spent baking

However, I also tip my sun-safety hat to the fact that it’s summer and some of you will soon be lying in the sun, whatever you read (but please stay off the lounger between 12pm and 2pm, when UV rays are most potent).

Sun boosters work like damage control, helping to maximise your tan so that you can minimise your number of hours spent baking. These products won’t protect against the sun, but they will boost and/or regulate your production of melanin (the tanning pigment in skin) so that you get a more even tan, faster.

The gold standard is Imedeen’s Tan Optimizer – a supplement brimming with carotenoids to kick-start your tanning process and antioxidants to help mop up sun damage – which you can start taking a month before take-off.

Fans of Guerlain’s carob-derived Terracotta Sun Serum also swear by its tan-boosting ability, blending two drops with moisturiser, and four drops with body cream, every morning for 14 days before a holiday.

Lancaster’s Tan Maximizer Soothing Moisturizer Repairing After Sun works post-holiday to keep your melanin production in overdrive for up to a month – and is served up with a large dose of skin conditioners.

And if you do overcook, do your skin a favour by using Clinique’s Repairwear Laser Focus, the closest thing to a laser in a bottle, for any sun-spot holiday hangovers.

We're almost halfway through wedding seasons which means your enthusiasm for finding a novel outfit for every nuptials you're attending could be waning. So if pretty dresses and heels just aren't cutting it any more, or you fancy looking into something a little more experimental, here are some ideas for rebooting your guest-dressing attire...

Switch up your suiting

You can count on Kate Moss to make a subtle style statement as a wedding guest. A city or country wedding is the prime opportunity to wear a co-ord with a twist. Shorts or skirts with matching tops or jackets are unusual and will pretty much guarantee you won't see another person wearing it at the wedding even when buying off the high street. Chose a light colour (grey or gold work well for full tonal dressing) and accesorise with a tan. Pair with platforms and little beaded drawstring bags to add a playful twist.

Choose tailored trousers

Take your style cues from Amal Clooney (albeit at her own civil ceremony) and dispense with the usual pencil skirt/top combo and opt for culottes or tailored wide leg trousers instead. Its far more modern, and you will feel comfortable all day and night long. It works equally well for city or destination weddings: just change the colour of the trousers or style of the top. But keep fabrics luxe for both - silks, satin or thin crepes work best.

Embrace flats

It can be a natural tendency to go straight for heels when dressing for a wedding, but don't ignore flats. Ballet pumps are having a resurgence; the slipper is the shoe du jour and crystal sandals are a perfect match to summer temperatures. You will be infinitely more comfortable and won't have to dance barefoot at the end of the evening. Look to Bianca Brandolini and pair them with a statement dress for high/low appeal.

The world's first Pokemon Go workout launches this week

Tech head or not, the sudden rise of Pokemon Go cannot have gone unnoticed by anyone who has ventured outside over the past week. As news stories on users calling 999 to report a stolen Pokemon or even being shot at continue to roll in, it wasn't long before the health and beauty world took notice.

Virgin Active, always quick to make the most of a trend, will this week introduce the world’s first Pokemon Go inspired training run.

The world's first Pokemon Go workout launches this week

Starting on Wednesday, eager London-based runners and Pokemon Go-ers will be able to take part in a personal-trainer-guided runs starting and ending at the gym's Walbrook branch, jogging a route in which they can capture Pokemon as they go.

Much has been made of how beneficial Pokemon Go could prove to be in combating childhood obesity – but Virgin Active has taken that one step further. As well as the 5k run, participants will also be challenged to interval training – press-ups, tricep dips, and lunges – lending itself to beefing up their physique just as much as their, er, reputation among the Pokemon community (note: this news piece was written by someone yet to download the app. Apologies for its lack of Pokemon insight.)

The only wisdom we do have to add to matters is of a health and safety nature: unlike your walking app-using forefathers, please do look where you are going.

The first run takes place on Wednesday, and non Virgin Active members can apply for entry on the Virgin Active UK Twitter page.

A loose turquoise full-sleeved shirt tucked into high-waisted yellow parallel pants, grey pumps, a pink sling bag and an Audrey Hepburn-esque styled floral scarf around her head... She floats in looking like she stepped out of a spring-summer New York runway. “Did you always dress like this?” I ask, trying not to stare too rudely. “Actually, I did. My mother used to dress me up this elaborately since I was in school. Back then, I used to complain, but today, I’m grateful.” she says.

A quick look through her Instagram account, miss_nawabi, and you will know the impeccable fashion sense of Ayesha Nawab, a city-based hijabi fashion blogger. She says her style is a mélange of vintage and new-age fashion. “You can see it when I incorporate floral with denim – my style is a mix of my mom in the 1980s and me in the 2000s,” she says.

“For me, wearing a hijab was a conscious decision. I was studying, living in Australia, and I just thought this was something I should do.” The turning point came when she started working part-time at Hijab House, a popular boutique in Sydney. “It might sound funny, but I had no idea how to wear a scarf and it never occurred to me to look for a YouTube tutorial. On my first day, I just randomly wrapped a scarf around my head with two bows and went in to work. Believe it or not, my boss liked what I had done and told me to style the mannequins the same way. Surprisingly, every girl who came into the store that day wanted to know how to tie a scarf that way.”

A pilot and teacher by profession, Ayesha Nawab and her sisters are the brains behind the brand Mysha, which does customised Islamic couture.Mumbai-based fashion blogger Farheen Naqi’s Instagram account filterfashion has 22.8k followers. “Cover as much as you want but be creative about it. If you can’t wear skinny jeans, go for palazzo pants. Else, make them yourself.”

City-based fashion blogger and designer Shazia Barkathulla – better known by her quirky instagram handle, the_devil_wears_parda – is putting hijabi fashion on the haute couture map. Her collection of hijabi clothing, which includes stylish maxis, overcoats and capes, has been shortlisted for the final round in the Gen Next Category at Lakmé Fashion Week-Winter Festival 2016 this August.

According to her, the style of the modern Muslim woman is a mix of modesty and simplicity. “I style my looks using products easily available at retailers in the city.” Hijabi fashion is increasingly becoming popular among Muslim women. Shazia says that while the previous generation stuck to the traditional black burqas and abayas, the present generation is more open to experimenting with colours and prints. Brightly coloured abayas in different styles like kimonos, kaftans or A-lines are the rage these days.

They all agree that there is a huge range in the market if you want to shop. All of them swear by Zara and Koovs, while the scarves are the best in Max and Splash. But local hijab boutiques turn out to be disappointing in terms of collections.

This lack of up-to-date hijabi fashion was what led Nayaab Shawl and Shanaz Rukshana to start Hayaah Hijabs, a first-of-its-kind start-up. “Sometimes, we find the local hijab stores having stagnant collections for years together. We want to bring out collections every season, like mainstream fashion.” says Shanaz.

However you style it, the Hijab – printed, embellished, customised or mass-produced – is, quite literally, the crowning glory for many of these hijabistas.

Game, set and match – Wimbledon's most stylish man

Stan Wawrinka’s “dad shorts” at the French Open. Andy Murray doing health goth in an all black Under Armour outfit at the Mubadala World Tennis Tournament in Abu Dhabi. Tennis has been filled with as many memorable men’s fashion moments as Euro 2016 has had bleached hairos.

Umpire Kader Nouni mixes classic styles on the tennis court.

image: chiffon bridesmaid dress

But the breakout style star at Wimbledon is umpire Kader Nouni. With his smoky tones, he’s been praised for having the best voice in tennis. But it’s his classically laissez-faire style that has been noted. The “Tennis Umpire at rest” look is a particularly hard one to get right, for all of its formality and suggestion of creaking conformity. But Nouni manages to mix low-key nautical and Wall Street styles in the Ralph Lauren suit. The way he wears his white collared boat-striped shirt with cream chinos suggests the classic trinity of Ivy-look dressing (Paul Newman, Steve McQueen and Sidney Poitier). While his tie, worn with the triangular end taken out of a buttoned-up blazer, hints at an off-kilter formality and the exoticism of the continent’s baby boomers (70s Campari advert meets the grizzled elegance of Serge Gainsbourg). Also, he sports his accessories in a way that’s classic not laboured: Jack Purcell-looking white sneakers (very Steve McQueen) with white socks and Ray-Ban shades. Basically, he wins 40-love all the way.

Queen's wardrobe goes on display at Buckingham Palace exhibit

A selection of outfits worn by Britain's Queen Elizabeth go on display at her London Buckingham Palace residence as part of an exhibition marking the monarch's 90th birthday this year.

"Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from The Queen's Wardrobe" showcases royal outfits from occasions such as family weddings as well as state visits.

The display will include the Queen's wedding dress, from 1947, and her coronation dress, worn in 1953.

1932: Princess Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II) walks in to visit the Royal Tournament at Olympia.

Both dresses were designed by the renowned British Sir Norman Hartnell, who died in 1979.

The exhibit will also feature some of the monarch's more modern attire, including Royal Ascot outfits and international tour wardrobes.

The Buckingham Palace exhibit, part of the summer opening of its State Rooms, is one of three such royal fashion displays taking place at the monarch's official residences, including Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

Elizabeth turned 90 in April, months after surpassing the 23,226-day reign of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
